Frequently Asked Questions

What is your student:teacher ratio?
3:1. Sequoia has two staff members and 6-7 parents working each day, with a daily attendance of 20-23 kids.

Does my child need to be potty-trained
No. There is an informal “diaper club” where parents of children still in diapers agree to help each other’s children on their working days.

How do you deal with conflict?
All conflicts are solved by immediate discussion.

Can my child attend 5 days?

All new three year-olds start with three days. A fourth day may be added later in the year with the approval of the Director and Teacher. Only four-year-old children may attend five days.

Is admission on a first-come-first-serve basis?

No, there is an application process, and all applications will be considered after the submission
deadline.

Once the application deadline has passed (typically in March), if our program is not yet full, we will accept rolling applications during the late Spring and throughout the Summer, until our program is full or until school starts, whichever comes first. At that point, applications become “first-come-first-serve.” It is our preference, however, to receive all applications in the early Spring, prior to our deadline.

Do you provide a snack?

We provide a daily, allergen-free, healthy snack, typically featuring fruits, vegetables, seed butter, and a grain or cracker of some sort (just to give an example). When student allergies allow, we may also offer dairy snacks and other protein sources (cheese, yogurt, hummus, to give a few examples). Our Snack team works closely with all families to ensure we are following an allergy policy that protects all of our students.

Does the school accommodate children with food allergies?
Yes, all children are welcome, and allergies are handled on an individual basis according to need.
